Begin your letter by explaining the job you are applying for and how that came about just a couple of lines etc. Then give some detail on your skills and interests that would make you the right person for that position. Be positive through out and always end with a positive “looking forward to hearing from you” type of statement.

Your cover letter should show the same type of professionalism as your CV e.g. formating, printed in black and white on decent quality paper and generally well presented. Fancy fonts and trying to show that you know how to do tricks with Microsoft Word will not impress but hinder you from highlighting your main skill points.
